Host nation Morocco will take on Ghana’s Black Queens in a highly anticipated semi-final at the Stade Olympique in Rabat today, with both sides aiming to secure a place in the final of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and move one step closer to a maiden continental title.
For Ghana, this marks a significant return to the latter stages of the competition, reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 2016.
The West Africans are now targeting a first appearance in the final since 2006 as they look to end a decades-long wait for WAFCON glory.

Morocco, on the other hand, are seeking back-to-back final appearances after finishing as runners-up in the 2022 edition. The Atlas Lionesses are buoyed by home support and the form that has seen them emerge as one of the tournament’s standout teams.
The Moroccans topped Group A with two wins and a draw, and boast the tournament’s most prolific attack with 10 goals scored so far.
In the quarter-finals, they comfortably defeated Mali 3–1, with Ibtissam Jraïdi netting a brace and Kenza Chapelle adding a third. Captain Ghizlane Chebbak has also been a key figure, currently joint-top of the scoring chart with four goals.
Ghana’s campaign has been a tale of resurgence. After opening with a 2–0 loss to defending champions South Africa and a 1–1 draw with Mali, the Black Queens came to life with a commanding 4–1 win over Tanzania to book a spot in the quarter-finals.

There, they edged Algeria on penalties after a goalless draw, thanks to two crucial saves from goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan.
The two teams have met five times previously, all in international friendlies, with Morocco holding a slight edge in the head-to-head record—three wins to Ghana’s two.
Their most recent encounter came in February 2025, when Morocco secured a narrow 1–0 victory.
With a place in Sunday’s final on the line, both teams are set to leave everything on the pitch in what promises to be a fiercely contested battle. For Morocco, it’s the chance to lift the trophy on home soil; for Ghana, a shot at rewriting history.
