WAFCON 2024: Black Queens Storm into Knockout Stage with Emphatic Win Over Tanzania

Ghana’s Black Queens delivered a clinical second-half performance to brush aside Tanzania 4–1 on Monday evening, sealing their passage into the knockout stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024.

It was Princella Adubea who gave Ghana an early lead, finding the net in the 12th minute with a composed finish from the centre of the box after a swift attacking move.

Tanzania, however, responded with determination. Just before the break, Stumai Athumani brought her side level, converting a well-placed header from Enekia Lunyamila’s assist to make it 1–1 at halftime. But the second half belonged entirely to Ghana.

The Black Queens regained the lead in the 63rd minute after Princess Marfo was fouled in the box. Alice Kusi stepped up and calmly dispatched the resulting penalty to restore Ghana’s advantage.

With confidence growing, Ghana turned the screws late on. Evelyn Badu added a third in the 87th minute, pouncing on a loose ball from a set-piece to extend the lead.

In stoppage time, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah capped off a dominant second-half display, finishing off a quick counter-attack with a precise strike to make it 4–1.

Despite flashes of attacking threat from the Twiga Stars, including spirited runs and build-up play, the Ghanaians’ superior organisation and clinical edge proved decisive.

The result sees Ghana comfortably advance from their group, underlining their ambitions of making a deep run in the competition as they continue their quest for continental glory.
