UEFA Fines Yamal, Lewandowski Over Anti-Doping Procedure Breach

Barcelona forwards Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski have each been fined €5,000 by UEFA for breaching post-match anti-doping regulations following their Champions League semi-final defeat to Inter Milan.

The European football governing body’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body said both players failed to report immediately to the doping control station at the San Siro, as required by competition rules.

Spanish outlets Marca and AS report that the infraction was purely procedural and did not involve a failed drug test.

The incident occurred after Barcelona’s 4-3 loss in Milan, which confirmed their exit from the tournament.

UEFA also punished Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick and his assistant Marcus Sorg, issuing €20,000 fines and one-match suspensions each for misconduct and breaches of the body’s general principles of conduct.

The pair were found to have acted improperly during and after the match.

Additionally, Barcelona were fined €7,750 – comprising €5,250 for objects thrown onto the pitch and €2,500 for fireworks set off by supporters during the semi-final.

The sanctions take immediate effect, with the suspensions to be served in the club’s next European fixture.
