Tsitsipas Reunites with Father Apostolos as Coach After Ivanisevic Split

Stefanos Tsitsipas has brought his father, Apostolos, back into his coaching team following the end of his short-lived collaboration with former Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivanisevic.

The partnership with Ivanisevic lasted less than two months and ended last week. After Tsitsipas crashed out in the first round at Wimbledon, Ivanisevic criticised him harshly, stating: “I have never seen such an unprepared player in my life.”

Tsitsipas had previously worked with his father throughout most of his career, reaching a career-high ranking of world No. 3 under his guidance.

However, since their coaching split in 2024, the Greek has seen a significant drop in form, slipping to No. 30 in the ATP rankings.

Following a second-round loss to Christopher O’Connell at the Canadian Open on Wednesday, Tsitsipas took to social media to announce the reunion with his father. “Some journeys have a way of circling back to where they began,” he wrote. “After some time apart, I’ve reunited with the person who first believed in me – my father. Sometimes, coming home is the boldest step forward.”

The 26-year-old ended the coaching relationship with his father in August last year. While speaking earlier this week, Tsitsipas acknowledged that his father “definitely made me lose my control” at times, but also expressed regret over how their split unfolded.

“I think I have to be strict with him,” he said. “Sometimes I feel like he wants to do too many things on his own.”
