Chelsea and England attacker Cole Palmer has been ruled out of action for the next week after fracturing a toe in a freak accident at home, manager Enzo Maresca confirmed on Friday.
The 23-year-old, who had only just returned to full training following a two-month layoff with a groin injury, reportedly injured himself after stubbing his toe on a door late at night.
The setback means Palmer will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley, Tuesday’s Champions League showdown with Barcelona, and next weekend’s league clash against leaders Arsenal.
“He is probably not available for tomorrow for sure, Barcelona for sure, or Arsenal for sure,” Maresca said.
“Unfortunately, he had an accident at home where he hit his toe, but it is nothing serious — though he won’t be back in the next week.”
Palmer, who scored twice in Chelsea’s Club World Cup final victory over Paris Saint-Germain in July, is expected to remain a key figure for both club and country as England prepare for next year’s World Cup.
