Tinubu Rewards D’Tigress with $100,000, Apartments, and National Honours for Afrobasket Victory

President Bola Tinubu has announced a generous reward package for Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their triumph at the recently concluded FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.

Each player on the team will receive $100,000 and a new apartment in recognition of their outstanding performance, which saw them emerge as African champions once again.

In addition to the players’ rewards, each member of the coaching crew will receive $50,000 for their role in the team’s success.

The Team was hosted by the Vice-President and First Lady today at the Presidential Villa, at Aso Rock, Abuja

The president also conferred on all team members the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

This development comes just days after the government’s earlier $100,000 reward to the Super Falcons, winners of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, stirred public debate over fairness and recognition of athletes across different sports.

D’Tigress’ latest victory solidifies their dominance in African women’s basketball, marking a significant achievement in Nigeria’s sporting history.
