At the current 2024 National Sports Festival, hosts Ogun State held firm control of the ball games and secured their spot in the final of six further sports on Monday.
In addition to the men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and handball championships on Tuesday (today), Team Ogun has already scheduled a matchup with Kwara in the men’s football final, which will be held at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex.
Lagos held the lead for the majority of the game, but Monisola Tewogbade’s three-pointer at the end of the game sealed Team Ogun’s comeback. They will now play Bayelsa State, who defeated Ondo State 62-28.
In the afternoon, their men’s counterparts defeated Adamawa 71-66 to cruise into their final.
The women’s volleyball team from Ogun State easily defeated the Kogi team 3-0 in the first semi-final, defeating them 25-8, 25-23, and 25-19 to go to the final and face Rivers State.
The Ogun State squad had defeated them in a rubber game during their meeting in the tournament’s group round.
To set up another meeting, Rivers also outclassed Oyo 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 27-25).
IOgun also defeated a valiant Bayelsa State 3-1 in men’s volleyball (25-16, 16-25, 25-16, 25-17).
In the second semifinal, which was also determined on Monday, they will take on Plateau State, who bounced back to defeat Ondo State in a rubber game.
Ogun defeated their Kogi counterparts 24-19 to set up a final meeting against Sokoto, who defeated Edo State 32-25, after being held to a 10-10 stalemate in the first half of their women’s handball match.
After defeating FCT 29–25, Ogun will play Lagos in the men’s handball final.
