Team Nigeria wrapped up its campaign in the badminton event at the inaugural African School Games in Algeria with an impressive haul of six medals—two gold, three silver, and one bronze.
The country’s first gold medal came through Precious Oluwagbotemi Adekunle, who showcased exceptional technique, agility, and strategic play to overcome her Egyptian opponent in the girls’ singles final.

Shortly after, Edun David Damilare secured the second gold for Nigeria in the boys’ singles, putting on a determined and resilient display to clinch a well-deserved win.
In the girls’ doubles final, Precious Adekunle teamed up with her sister, Cynthia Adekunle, for a spirited performance that saw them finish as runners-up, earning a silver medal for Nigeria.

The mixed doubles event also saw Nigeria on the podium, as Edun David and Cynthia Adekunle combined efforts to earn another silver after a competitive outing in the final.
In the mixed team semifinal, Nigeria, represented by Ahmed Ayatulla and Masibau Faisat, went up against Tunisia. Ayatulla secured a 3-1 victory in the boys’ match, but Tunisia responded with a 3-0 win in the girls’ match and edged the doubles 3-1. With an overall 2-1 scoreline, Nigeria had to settle for the bronze medal in the team event.

With these results, Team Nigeria’s badminton contingent concludes its campaign with a total of six medals. Across all sports so far, the nation has claimed eight medals—two gold, four silver, and two bronze.
