Six senior Super Eagles players have jointly donated ₦24 million to the Super Falcons in recognition of their remarkable victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The generous contributors include team captain William Troost-Ekong, Olaoluwa Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo. Their gesture comes as a show of solidarity and appreciation for the Falcons’ resilience and historic achievement.
The Super Falcons pulled off a stunning comeback in the final, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat tournament hosts Morocco in a dramatic encounter on Saturday night. The victory marked Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title and further solidified the team’s dominance in African women’s football under head coach Justine Madugu.
The triumphant squad and their officials returned to Nigeria on Monday to a hero’s welcome. In addition to the players’ donation, they were also honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and received further recognition from the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
The team’s win has sparked nationwide celebration, with many praising their fighting spirit and the unity shown across the country’s football community.
