Shooting Stars Sack Ogunbote, Entire Management Team After Disappointing Season

Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan have parted ways with head coach Gbenga Ogunbote and the entire management staff following an underwhelming 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign.

The Oluyole Warriors finished the season in eighth place, recording 15 wins, 9 draws, and 14 losses in 38 matches.

Disappointed with the team’s performance, the club’s board, led by chairman Lekan Salami, made the decision to relieve Ogunbote, his coaching crew, and General Manager Dimeji Lawal of their duties with immediate effect.

Ogunbote, a seasoned tactician, had been in charge of Shooting Stars for nearly three years, rejoining the club in August 2022 for a third spell.

Lawal, a former player and long-serving official, has also been shown the door as the club prepares for the 2025/26 season.

Reports suggest that former head coach Edith Agoye is being considered for a return to lead the team once again.

Meanwhile, despite his departure, Ogunbote is reportedly on the radar of Kano Pillars, who had previously approached him earlier in the transfer window.

At the time, he declined their offer to honor his contract with Shooting Stars. However, with his exit now confirmed, talks are expected to resume, and a deal could be finalized in the coming weeks if negotiations go well.
