The League Management Committee of the Nigerian Premier Football League, has slammed a fine of ₦5 million on Shooting Stars Club of Ibadan after their fans attacked the Ikorodu City team at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
on Sunday, both players and officials of Ikorodu City needed the stepping in of men of the Nigerian Army before they could leave the stadium after they had gotten a valuable draw away from home.
The players and officials of Ikorodu City were taken hostage by angry fans of Shooting stars on Sunday, and were even made to wait in the dressing room for over 80 minutes without light.
Some fans of Shooting Stars also damaged one of the buses that belonged to Ikorodu City, as the players were locked inside the stadium to prevent the irate fans from gaining entry.
In a statement made public by the NPFL, “3SC was found guilty of all three counts for failure to provide adequate security, failure to ensure proper conduct of their supporters, resulting in attack on the opponents and throwing objects to the field of play and referees”.
The League then fined 3SC ₦1 million for each charge and an additional ₦2 million to be paid to Ikorodu City for the cost of damage to their bus.
they also ordered the gates of Lekan Salami Stadium be shut thereby denying fans the opportunity to watch 3SC games.
