Real Madrid and several top clubs are reportedly lobbying for the FIFA Club World Cup to be held every two years instead of the current four-year cycle.
However, according to Madrid Zone via @Rodra10_97, FIFA has deemed such a move unfeasible at the moment.
FIFA recently expanded the format of the Club World Cup, with the 2025 edition in the United States featuring 32 teams, up from the previous seven. Chelsea emerged as champions of the inaugural expanded tournament, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3–0 in the final.
Following the conclusion of the competition, FIFA officially recognised Chelsea as the first winners of the newly structured Club World Cup.
In line with the change, FIFA also announced that the winners of the older 7-team format will now be known as Intercontinental Champions.
Manchester City were the last team to win the previous format, having claimed the 2023 title with a 4–0 win over Brazilian side Fluminense in the final.
While club interest in a more frequent Club World Cup reflects a desire for increased global exposure and financial opportunities, FIFA appears committed, for now, to maintaining the four-year cycle.
