Real Madrid Edge Dortmund in Chaotic Finish to Reach Club World Cup Semi-Final

Real Madrid secured their place in the Club World Cup semi-finals after surviving a chaotic ending in their 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund, a match that featured three late goals and a red card.

Gonzalo Garcia starred once again, scoring twice in the first 20 minutes. The 19-year-old volleyed in Arda Güler’s cross to open the scoring and added a second soon after from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s delivery, bringing his tournament tally to four goals.

Madrid appeared in full control until substitute Maximilian Beier pulled one back for Dortmund, sparking a dramatic finish. Kylian Mbappé, also coming off the bench, restored Madrid’s two-goal cushion with an acrobatic volley. However, Dean Huijsen was sent off moments later for dragging down Serhou Guirassy in the box, and the Dortmund striker converted the resulting penalty.

Despite the late drama, Madrid held on, with Garcia now level with Angel Di Maria and Marcos Leonardo at the top of the golden boot race—both of whom are no longer in the competition.

Real Madrid will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final on Wednesday at 20:00 BST.
