Raja Casablanca Eye Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali in Squad Rebuild

Moroccan football giants Raja Casablanca are reportedly targeting Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as part of their squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 season.

According to South African outlet Unplayable, the three-time CAF Champions League winners have expressed strong interest in the 29-year-old shot-stopper, who currently plays for Chippa United in the South African Premier Division.

Nwabali’s profile has soared in recent months, particularly following his standout performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian international played a key role in the Super Eagles’ journey to the final, earning widespread praise for his calm presence, excellent reflexes, and leadership.

His heroics in the semi-final against South Africa—where he saved two penalties in the shootout—further solidified his reputation as one of the continent’s elite goalkeepers.

At club level, Nwabali has been equally impressive. He made 26 appearances for Chippa United last season and currently serves as the team’s captain.

His consistency and leadership have made him a central figure at the club, though sources indicate Chippa may be open to a sale if a suitable offer is presented. The goalkeeper is valued at €650,000 on Transfermarkt, though his market value is expected to rise in light of his international exploits.

Raja Casablanca, who endured a disappointing 2024/25 campaign without silverware, are reportedly seeking experienced and proven talents to strengthen their squad for both domestic and continental competitions.

Nwabali, with his blend of experience and current form, fits the profile of players the club is looking to bring in.

Founded in 1949, Raja remains one of Africa’s most decorated clubs, boasting three CAF Champions League titles (1989, 1997, 1999) and numerous domestic honours. The pursuit of Nwabali is seen as a strategic move to restore the club’s dominance in Moroccan and African football.

While neither Chippa United nor Raja Casablanca has confirmed ongoing negotiations, sources suggest that discussions could accelerate in the coming weeks as the Moroccan club looks to finalize key signings before the new season begins.

A move to Raja would mark a significant step forward in Nwabali’s career, potentially giving him the platform to feature in top-tier African competitions, including the CAF Champions League.
