Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is set to undergo a medical ahead of a permanent move to Galatasaray, following the Turkish club’s agreement to meet all conditions set by Napoli.
The final agreement between both clubs was reached on Sunday, just ahead of the Monday deadline imposed by Napoli for the completion of paperwork.
Key issues in the negotiations included the activation of Osimhen’s release clause, percentage clauses on future sales, and a stipulation preventing a move to another Serie A club within the next two years.
Wazobia FM’s Onyebuchi Onokala, who has closely followed the deal, confirmed the development on Sunday.
“Deal done: Victor James Osimhen to Galatasaray on a permanent move. Final agreement reached between Napoli and Galatasaray for €75m, as Galatasaray meets all conditions set by Napoli,” he stated.
He added that Napoli will receive 10 per cent of any future transfer fee, while Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the Serie A club will also get €5m in performance-related add-ons, based on Osimhen’s goal contributions.
The deal comes after a long summer of negotiations. Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 37 goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
Galatasaray had initially agreed to trigger the striker’s €75m release clause, offering to pay €40m upfront, with the remaining €35m spread in instalments until June 2026.
However, the transfer stalled due to Galatasaray’s delay in providing the required bank guarantees, prompting concern from Napoli due to past payment issues involving Goran Pandev and Blerim Dzemaili in 2014.
Despite interest from other clubs, including teams in Saudi Arabia, Osimhen declined alternative offers and a possible return to Napoli, making Galatasaray his preferred destination.
A crucial part of the agreement is the anti-Serie A clause, which stipulates that Galatasaray would incur a substantial penalty if the player is sold to an Italian club within the next two years.
Though Osimhen’s €75m release clause technically expired on July 15, Napoli opted to uphold the price tag to facilitate the deal with Galatasaray.
The 26-year-old has been expected to leave Napoli since last summer, following a breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy.
After proving his value during a successful loan spell in Istanbul, Osimhen now looks set for a permanent stay in Turkey, pending medicals.
