Team Ogun defeated Team Sokoto 38-34 in a thrilling women’s Handball final at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival decided at the Alake Sports Centre on Wednesday, https://pdwheelsmedia.com/blog/ reports.
Having performed well in the ball competitions, the hosts delivered in the gold medal match. However, not all was sunshine and roses as the Northern side also presented a positive image of themselves.
Because of the protests earlier in the day, the final, which was supposed to start by 2pm, started a bit later than planned.
The Ogun team got out to a poor start, but team Sokoto quickly took the lead in the first half. However, the host team came back and took the lead at the half (18–17).
When the play resumed, the hosts carried on where they had left off. Team Sokoto remained in contact despite their attempts to distance themselves. In the fiercely close game, the biggest lead was only six points. In the end, the Gateway State team prevailed by a four-point advantage despite a late comeback by Team Sokoto.
In the bronze medal match, Edo State thrashed Kogi State 32-20 to win bronze on Tuesday.
However, the Men’s final between Lagos and Ogun State was not concluded because of the heavy downpour and it will be completed on Thursday (today) morning.
