Nottingham Forest Stun Liverpool At Anfield To Break 55-year Jinx

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have picked their first victory in 55 years against Liverpool at Anfield after substitute Callum Hudon Odoi produced a belter beyond the reach of goalkeeper Becker Allison to coup all three points for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.

Arne Slot has now tasted his first defeat as Liverpool manager bringing an end to an unbeaten run while Forest continue their fine start to the season.

Despite Nottingham Forest’S 23-year absence from the Premier League, the gap between this 1-0 victory and their last win at Forest in February 1969 seemed insurmountable. However, they held firm against an off-color Liverpool side and eventually created a half-chance that they capitalized on.

In the first half, Liverpool struggled to find their rhythm as Nottingham Forest players effectively neutralized the hosts’ potent attack. Àlex Moreno successfully marked Mohamed Salah on the right wing, while Ryan Yates and Alexis Mac Allister engaged in a physical midfield battle.

Making triple substitutions at the hour mark, Liverpool struggled to find a breakthrough. However, a moment of brilliance from Anthony Elanga, who provided a perfect assist for Hudson-Odoi’s curling effort, gave Nottingham Forest a shock lead.

The goal, the first conceded under Arne Slot, stunned Liverpool players and fans. Forest dominated the closing stages, with Alisson forced into a late save from Elanga. Liverpool failed to mount a significant comeback, and Nottingham Forest secured a well-deserved victory at Anfield.
