The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, on Friday honoured Super Falcons forward and Benue-born football star, Francisca Ordega, for her contribution to Nigeria’s historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ordega, a key member of the squad that clinched Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title, was received at the Minister’s office in Abuja alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Richard Pheelangwah.
Commending the Super Falcons for their remarkable campaign, Prof. Utsev attributed the team’s success to hard work, dedication, and teamwork.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, including the national honours and reward packages announced for the players.
“I am particularly proud that a daughter of Benue is among the champions who made Nigeria proud,” Utsev said. “As a Ministry, we are delighted to celebrate her success and will continue to encourage young people in Benue to excel in their chosen careers.”
In response, Ordega expressed her gratitude for the recognition, describing the Minister as “a brother and uncle,” while thanking the people of Benue, President Tinubu, and Nigerians for their support.
She also urged the Minister to invest in sports development in Benue State, stressing the need to discover and nurture future talents.
