Spanish manager Mikel Arteta is on the verge of signing a three years lucrative extension with Arsenal that will keep him at the club until 2027.
The Spaniard, who succeeded Unai Emery in December 2019, has elevated Arsenal from mid-table obscurity to serious Premier League title contenders during his five-year tenure after honing his coaching skills under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City from 2016 to 2019.
The former player then oversaw a rebuilding process, developing and introducing several young talents like Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe, and Gabriel Martinelli. Simultaneously, he moved on from established names and high earners such as Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arteta’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but the new agreement has resolved uncertainty about his future and established him as one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League.
He guided Arsenal to FA Cup victory in 2019-20, showcasing his impressive impact. His role was subsequently elevated from head coach to manager, reflecting his growing influence at the club.
Previously earning £9 million annually, Mikel Arteta is now poised to become Arsenal’s highest-paid manager ever. The terms of his new contract are believed to bring him closer to Pep Guardiola’s £20 million salary at Manchester City. This significant boost for Arsenal comes ahead of their crucial north London derby against Tottenham this weekend.
After leading Arsenal to consecutive eighth-place finishes, the Gunners achieved a fifth-place finish in 2021-22. In the past two campaigns, Arsenal narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.
Having signed his previous contract in 2022, he has won 139 of his 235 games in charge of the club, playing a pivotal role in completely transforming the atmosphere at the Emirates.
