Mbappé to Take Penalties for Real Madrid Under Xabi Alonso

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé will serve as the team’s primary penalty taker for the upcoming 2025/26 season, according to reports from Marca.

The decision highlights Mbappé’s central role in Madrid’s attacking setup under new manager Xabi Alonso, who took charge following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure to coach the Brazilian national team.

Wearing the iconic No. 10 jersey, Mbappé is now seen as the leader of Real Madrid’s frontline, ahead of fellow star Vinícius Júnior.

The French international brings significant penalty experience, having taken spot-kicks during his time at Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, and with the French national team.

Last season, he netted an impressive 44 goals and claimed both the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Boot.

Alonso had earlier stated that he would decide on the team’s designated penalty taker ahead of the new campaign. That decision now places Mbappé in charge of spot-kick duties.

Real Madrid will begin their La Liga season against Osasuna on August 19, with the league officially kicking off on Friday, August 15.
