Embattled Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has intensified his push for a move to Inter Milan by clearing out his locker at Atalanta’s Zingonia training ground and skipping training for the second consecutive day.
The 27-year-old has formally submitted a transfer request as he seeks to force through a switch to the Nerazzurri during the current window. Atalanta have so far rejected two bids from Inter, but the player appears determined to leave.
In a lengthy Instagram post over the weekend, Lookman broke his silence on the situation, citing “broken promises” by Atalanta’s management and alleging he had been treated poorly “as a human being and as a professional footballer.”
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has since confirmed there is an informal agreement in place to allow the reigning African Player of the Year to leave this summer—but not to another Serie A club.
This stipulation further complicates negotiations with Inter.
Lookman, who was scheduled to resume individual training following injury concerns, failed to report to camp and has now missed two sessions in protest.
His absence, and the symbolic act of clearing his locker, are being viewed as escalatory moves in an already strained relationship with the club.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the situation is being described as a “total break-up” between Lookman and Atalanta, with growing tension over the club’s refusal to sanction a domestic transfer.
While Atalanta remain firm on their stance, the player appears unwavering in his desire to join Inter before the transfer window closes.
It remains to be seen how the saga will unfold in the coming days, but the rift between the Super Eagles star and his current club seems to have reached a breaking point.
