Liverpool have approached Newcastle United over a potential record-breaking deal for Swedish striker Alexander Isak, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Merseyside club is eager to secure Isak’s services this summer, but their pursuit hinges on Newcastle’s stance, as the Magpies are reportedly reluctant to sell and have already offered the striker a new contract to stay at St. James’ Park.
Should Newcastle refuse to part ways with Isak, Liverpool are prepared to shift their focus to French forward Hugo Ekitike, currently at Eintracht Frankfurt.
While Liverpool monitor the situation, Newcastle themselves are pushing hard to sign Ekitike, having submitted an official bid close to €80 million earlier this week. However, Frankfurt are holding out for a higher fee, keeping the deal in flux.
Romano stated on X: “Liverpool can enter the race [for Ekitike]… only if Newcastle close the doors to Alexander Isak exit.”
In a separate development, Manchester City have confirmed the permanent appointment of former defender Kolo Toure to Pep Guardiola’s first-team coaching staff.
Romano had previously reported the Ivorian’s imminent arrival back in May 2025, with the deal now finalized as Toure signed his contract earlier today.
