Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has sparked online reactions after sharing a video showing the condition of the hotel provided for the Nigerian team ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff against Gabon in Morocco.
According to our findings, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is responsible for arranging accommodation for participating teams.
However, national federations, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), are permitted to raise formal complaints or request alternative lodgings if the facilities provided fall below acceptable standards.
In the clip posted by Iwobi, parts of the hotel appeared poorly maintained — a situation that has drawn criticism from fans and observers who believe the Super Eagles deserve better conditions as they prepare for such a crucial fixture.
This is not the first time Nigerian players have voiced concerns about accommodation during international tournaments. Earlier this year, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade criticized the rooms provided by CAF during the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing them as “substandard.”
The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon in the CAF playoff semi-final on November 13 in Rabat, as they aim to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
As of the time of filing this report, neither CAF nor the NFF has issued an official statement regarding the video or the condition of the team’s accommodation.
