Ile-Ife to Host Inaugural Ife Road Race During Olojo Festival

The historic city of Ile-Ife in Osun State is set to host the maiden edition of the Ife Road Race on September 25, as part of the celebrations marking the iconic Olojo Festival.

The 5-kilometre race aims to unearth raw athletic talent, promote healthy lifestyles, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

Conceived by Adeleke Odewade, a staunch advocate for youth empowerment, the initiative has received the royal endorsement of His Imperial Majesty, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

“Our society lacks opportunities for discovering and grooming talent,” Odewade said. “This race is a platform to identify raw potential, but it won’t stop there. We’re building a system of coaching, mentorship, and support long after the race ends.”

Organised in collaboration with the Alade’fa Athletic Family Initiative, the event is open to youths, amateur runners, and professional athletes alike.

All participants will receive certificates of participation, while category winners will be rewarded with special cash prizes.

The race route has been carefully mapped to pass through prominent cultural landmarks in Ile-Ife, offering a scenic journey through the cradle of Yoruba civilization.

Organisers are calling on corporate sponsors, government agencies, and philanthropists to support the initiative through sponsorships and strategic partnerships.

Registration is now open via the official race platforms for all interested participants.
