World No. 2 Coco Gauff overcame a stumbling start to defeat Madison Keys, another American, and go to the French Open semifinals.
Gauff reached her third Roland Garros semi-final after defeating Court Phillippe Chatrier 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 6-1.
Despite both players being far from their best, Gauff finally settled into a rhythm late in the second set and went on to win the third set.
Gauff, who shared the 2024 French Open doubles championship with Czech Katerina Siniakova, will play either French wildcard and world No. 361 Lois Boisson after Loics Boisson sent Russian sixth seed Mirra Andreeva, packing.
“It wasn’t an easy match and I’m very happy to get through it,” said Gauff, 21.
“She is obviously a very great player and her forehand is probably one of the best, if not the best, on tour.
“Honestly I knew that I just had to be able to run today. As soon as the ball came short, I knew I had to punish her for it.”
