Ander Herrera has received a four-match suspension today (Thursday) after being sent off during Boca Juniors vs. Benfica’s Club World Cup match.
The midfielder was dismissed for trying “to intimidate the referee” during a VAR review, and the tension reached a point where security had to intervene to defuse the situation.
“Unsportsmanlike conduct and interference with officiating procedures” were the reasons given by the disciplinary committee for the suspension.
Herrera’s absence from the next four competitive games will negatively impact his team’s tournament campaign.
