Colombian striker Jhon Duran has joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a one-year loan deal from Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, just six months after his high-profile move from Aston Villa.
Duran, 21, made an instant impact after joining Al-Nassr in January for a reported £71 million, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances. Before that, he had netted 12 times in 29 games for Aston Villa during the 2023/24 season.
Fenerbahce confirmed the loan signing in a statement on Monday:
“Our club has reached an agreement with both the club and the player for Jhon Duran to join our squad on a one-year loan. We wish our player a season full of success under our striped jersey.”
The Colombian international has scored three goals in 17 appearances for his country and is widely regarded as one of the most promising young forwards in South America.
Duran initially moved to Europe from MLS side Chicago Fire, joining Aston Villa in January 2023 for £18 million. Despite his potential, he struggled for consistent starts at Villa Park, with most of his 78 appearances coming off the bench due to the form of England striker Ollie Watkins.
During his short stint in Saudi Arabia, Duran played a key role in helping Al-Nassr secure a third-place finish in the Saudi Pro League. While he departs on loan, the club recently extended Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, keeping the Portuguese star at the club for two more years.
Fenerbahce, under new manager José Mourinho, will be hoping Duran adds firepower to their attack after finishing second in the Turkish Super Lig last season.
