D’Tigress Storm into AfroBasket Semi-Finals with 83-47 Rout of Cameroon

African champions Nigeria D’Tigress have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after a dominant 83-47 win over Cameroon on Thursday night in Abidjan.

The six-time and reigning champions will now face Senegal in the last four as they continue their quest for a fifth consecutive title.

Cameroon started brightly with a 4-0 run, but Nigeria quickly flipped the momentum, taking a 7-4 lead and never looking back.

Coach Rena Wakama’s well-drilled squad proved too deep and too fresh for a Cameroonian side still recovering from a gruelling late-night qualification game against Angola.

By halftime, D’Tigress had taken full control, heading into the break with a commanding 36-18 lead. Amy Okonkwo led the charge with 15 points and 5 rebounds in the first half alone.

Victoria Macaulay provided valuable contributions off the bench, dominating the paint and offering efficient offense.

Nigeria extended their lead to 66-31 by the end of the third quarter, leaving Cameroon with no route back into the contest.

Okonkwo closed out the game with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist. Ezinne Kalu was key in orchestrating the offense, delivering five assists.

Nicole Enabosi added 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Macaulay posted 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. Elizabeth Balogun also impressed, contributing 11 points, 5 rebounds, a steal, and a block.

With the victory, D’Tigress and fellow semifinalists Senegal, Mali, and South Sudan have secured qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments, scheduled for March.

They will join 20 other national teams in the qualifiers, including powerhouses from the Americas such as Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Colombia.
