Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have arrived in Luanda, Angola, ahead of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket tournament, which tips off on Tuesday.
The final 12-man roster, announced on Saturday, features experienced NBA shooting guard Josh Okogie of the Houston Rockets, defensive specialist Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, veteran forward Talib Zanna, seasoned guard Stan Okoye, and Mike Nuga.
Also making the squad are forward Devine Eke, centre Christian Mekowulu, power forward Martins Igbanu, guard Ugo Andrew Simon, forward Emmanuel Omogbo, guard Ike Nwamu, and playmaker Caleb Agada.
The quartet of Fola Fayemi, Kareem Joseph, and Mohamed AbdulSalam were cut from the provisional squad, while Peter Olisemeka was ruled ineligible for the competition.
Head coach Mohammed Abdulrahman will lead the 2015 champions, with Deji Akindele and Ikenna Smart serving as assistants. Stan Okoye and Ike Nwamu will captain the side as they aim for a second continental crown, a decade after their first triumph.
D’Tigers have been drawn in Group B alongside defending champions Tunisia, Cameroon, and Madagascar. They open their campaign against Madagascar on August 13, face Tunisia on August 15, and wrap up the group stage against Cameroon on August 17.
The knockout rounds will run from August 18, with the final scheduled for August 24 at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda.
Nigeria will be looking to improve on their disappointing 2021 outing, when they were eliminated by Uganda in the pre-quarter-finals.
