Diogo Jota’s goal sees Liverpool inch closer to league title

Liverpool need 13 points to clinch their second league title in five years

Diogo Jota’s strike against Everton helped Liverpool to restore their 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League over Arsenal in a heated game against their neighbors on Wednesday.

Everton captain James Tarkowski had only just escape with just a yellow card from an early reckless challenge on Alexis Mac Allister to set the tone.

The visitors hit the post through Beto in the first half, but saw their nine-game unbeaten league run come to an end when Jota fired home just before the hour mark.

Victory means Liverpool need just 13 points from their remaining eight games to clinch a 2nd title in five years and a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.

After both sides struggled to stamp their authority on the game, the first goal came through a pass aimed toward Luis Diaz who was offside being cut off by Tarkowsk. Diaz pounced on the loose ball and flicked the ball into Jota’s path, who kept his cool to cut inside Idrissa Gueye and Tarkwoski before scoring his first goal since January.
