CAF Rankings: Rivers United Named Nigeria’s Top Club at 24th

Rivers United have been ranked as Nigeria’s highest-placed team in the latest Confederation of African Football (CAF) club rankings, sitting 24th on the continent with 14 points.

The Port Harcourt-based side has been the country’s most consistent performer in CAF competitions in recent years, earning valuable coefficient points through steady appearances and progress in continental tournaments.

CAF released the updated rankings ahead of the 2025/26 season, with the preliminary draw for the Champions League and Confederation Cup scheduled for tomorrow in Tanzania.

Enyimba, Nigeria’s most successful club in Africa with two CAF Champions League titles, dropped to 35th place with 7 points.

The Aba giants have struggled in recent seasons, with their last notable run being the 2024/25 Confederation Cup group stage before suffering early elimination.

The rankings are calculated based on performances in CAF competitions over the last five seasons, with more weight placed on recent results.

Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly lead the continental table with 78 points, followed by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns (62 points) and Tunisia’s Espérance (57 points).

The updated rankings will influence seeding for the upcoming CAF competitions, potentially shaping the path for Nigerian clubs in the preliminary rounds.
