The WAFU B zonal qualifications, which will take place in Ivory Coast from August 9 to 24, will mark the start of the Nigeria Women’s Football League champions Bayelsa Queens’ quest for a second continental appearance at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Ghana Football Association published the confirmation from the West Africa Football Union Zone B, which revealed the official date and location of the regional qualifications for the competition’s fifth edition.
According to a statement made available to the GFA from the WAFU B Secretariat, “The West Africa Football Union Zone B has officially announced the date and venue for the 2025 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament. According to a notice from the WAFU B Secretariat, the tournament will be held in Ivory Coast from Saturday, August 9 to Sunday, August 24, 2025.”
Bayelsa Queens, also known as the Prosperity Girls, made their debut in 2022 and won the event, making them the first Nigerian team to make two appearances at the WAFU B qualifiers.
After defeating Burkina Faso’s US Forces Armées 3-1 in the 2022 final, the Yenagoa-based squad achieved the best achievement by a Nigerian team in the competition to date by taking third place in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals in Morocco.
After a strong season under head coach Whyte Ogbonda, Bayelsa Queens won the 2024–25 Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Super Six Playoffs and qualified for the WAFU B event.
The next qualifiers in Ivory Coast will serve as a springboard to the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League final event, with only the victors receiving the region’s one ticket.
