Barcelona will make their long-awaited return to the iconic Camp Nou on August 10, hosting their traditional Joan Gamper Trophy match, the club announced on Wednesday. The fixture will mark a symbolic reopening of the revamped stadium after extensive renovations, although construction work is set to continue.
The Spanish champions confirmed that the Gamper match will be the first event at the newly modernised ground, but noted that key sections remain under development. These include the completion of the third tier, a dual VIP hospitality ring, roof installation, upgraded interior spaces, and enhancements to the stadium’s surrounding infrastructure.
“Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium,” the club said.
While Barcelona did not disclose the temporary seating capacity, reports from local media indicate that around 35,000 fans will be able to attend the match. To allow more time for renovations, the club has successfully requested to play their first three La Liga fixtures of the 2024/25 season away from home.
The return to Camp Nou comes after more than a year away, with the team temporarily relocating to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in 2023 while work on the stadium commenced under the ambitious “Espai Barça” project.
Originally scheduled to be completed sooner, the redevelopment has faced delays, pushing final completion to the summer of 2026. Once finished, the new-look Camp Nou will boast a capacity of 105,000, reinforcing its status as one of the world’s largest and most advanced football stadiums.
The Gamper Trophy encounter will serve as a historic milestone for the Catalan club and its supporters, offering a first glimpse of the reimagined stadium as it inches closer to its full transformation.
