Barau FC’s Nana Abraham Recovers After Katsina United Attack

Barau FC midfielder, Nana Abraham, has confirmed that he is recovering well after sustaining an injury during the violent scenes that marred his side’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 12 clash with Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Saturday.

The incident occurred shortly after Barau FC equalized through Orji Kalu in the 69th minute, triggering chaos in the stands as home supporters invaded restricted areas and threw objects onto the pitch.

The match was briefly halted before resuming and eventually ended 1–1.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Abraham expressed gratitude to the medical staff for their swift response and condemned the violence.

“I’m feeling better right now. Our medical team did their best in treating my injuries,” he said.
“It’s unfortunate what happened. Football is not a war — you can either win, draw, or lose. We’ve played five home games, won one, drawn three, and lost one, and nothing happened. So why should we be attacked here?”

Following the incident, the NPFL imposed a ₦9 million fine on Katsina United and ordered them to play their remaining home games behind closed doors in Jos as part of disciplinary measures for security lapses and fan misconduct.
