Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has filed a lawsuit against the club, alleging he received negligent medical advice during his time at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old, who joined Burnley earlier this month, submitted a legal claim to the High Court last week. The case relates to a previously undisclosed injury sustained around July 2022 and is reported to be a high-value claim, believed to exceed £1 million.
Tuanzebe spent 195 days sidelined due to the injury in question during his final season with Manchester United. He was subsequently loaned to Stoke City in January 2023, where he made just five appearances before departing the club.
A long-serving product of United’s youth academy, Tuanzebe joined the club at the age of eight and made his senior debut in 2017. He went on to make 37 first-team appearances, including featuring in the 2021 Europa League final against Villarreal.
Although United lost 11-10 on penalties, Tuanzebe successfully converted his spot-kick in the shootout.
The former England Under-21 international, who now represents the DR Congo national team, also had three loan spells at Aston Villa and a brief stint with Napoli in 2022.
He left United in the summer of 2023 and joined Ipswich Town as a free agent before securing a move to Burnley.
Both Manchester United and Tuanzebe’s legal representatives, Simons Muirhead Burton, declined to comment when contacted.
