Ahmed Musa denies gifting cars to Kano Pillars players after appointment as GM

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has refuted viral social media claims suggesting he gifted luxury vehicles to players and officials of Kano Pillars following his appointment as the club’s general manager.

The 31-year-old, who was officially unveiled by the Kano State Government on Saturday, July 5, took to his official X handle on Tuesday to deny the reports, describing them as “false and misleading.”

Earlier in the day, rumours spread online alleging that Musa had distributed brand new Toyota Land Cruisers to the entire team and coaching staff as a generous gesture to celebrate his return to Pillars in an executive capacity. The claim quickly went viral, prompting reactions from fans and media outlets.

“It has come to my attention that false information is being circulated claiming that I distributed cars to players and officials following my appointment as general manager of Kano Pillars Football Club,” Musa wrote. “This claim is entirely untrue.”

He urged the public and the media to verify information before sharing, warning that the spread of misinformation can undermine the club’s leadership and credibility.

Photos of luxury vehicles linked to the rumour actually originated from a separate event in March 2024, when Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris donated 24 Toyota jeeps to members of the state House of Assembly. These same images were recycled online to fuel the false narrative involving Musa.

Despite the online speculation, Musa appeared unbothered and was seen training with the Pillars squad on Tuesday, continuing in his dual role as both a player and an administrator.

In his first official meeting with the club’s board on Monday, Musa pledged to restore the former glory of the four-time Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions.

“Kano Pillars is our club and one of the most successful in Nigeria, but in recent years, the story has changed,” he said. “I want to assure everyone here that, with your support and the backing of the board members, I will do everything possible to reposition the club and make it one of the finest not only in Africa but globally.”

Musa also stressed the importance of unity, strategic planning, and commitment from all stakeholders to usher in a new and successful era for Kano Pillars under his leadership.
