France international midfielder, Adrien Rabiot is closing in on a free transfer to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille with the move subject to a medical following his exit from Juventus.
The French midfielder is on the verge of joining Marseille, pending a successful medical examination, the club announced on Sunday. If the medical goes well, Rabiot could make his debut for Marseille when they face rivals Lyon on Sunday night.
The 2018 World Cup winner became a free agent when his contract with the Italian giants expired this summer with both parties not finding a common ground for extension. While there were reports in July that Manchester United were considering signing him, they ultimately decided against pursuing the deal with the club opting for Manuel Ugarte from his former club PSG instead.
Rabiot, a product of the PSG academy, made 227 appearances for the club across all competitions before joining Juventus in 2019. He won a Serie A title during his first season in Italy.
Now, Rabiot is set to become the latest addition to Marseille’s star-studded midfield, joining Mason Greenwood, Neal Maupay, and Emile Hojbjerg under the guidance of new manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Bought by the club’s project, Adrien Rabiot admitted that the project really spoke to him: “A city that lives for football, it makes you want to play and win”.
