Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo is still weighing up a potential switch to represent Nigeria at international level, despite growing speculation that he has pledged his allegiance to the Super Eagles.
The 26-year-old, born in Manchester to Nigerian parents, has represented England at various youth levels—including the U-16s, U-17s, U-18s, and U-19s—but is yet to earn a senior cap for the Three Lions.
Adarabioyo, who recently joined Chelsea from Fulham, made his first-ever visit to Nigeria in July. During the trip, questions surrounding his international future resurfaced. Addressing the issue, the centre-back confirmed that no final decision had been made.
“It’s something I still think about. We will see in the near future, hopefully, and I’ll start to make a decision,” Adarabioyo said.
“It’s just something that has obviously been a topic for many years now since I’ve become a professional footballer. But again, like I said, we’ll see.”
Sources close to the player suggest he is nearing a decision—likely in favour of the three-time African champions.
Should he opt to represent Nigeria, a first call-up could follow soon after, though the September international window may come too early due to the time required to process paperwork and complete FIFA’s eligibility switch protocols.
The Super Eagles are on the lookout for reinforcements in central defence ahead of upcoming AFCON qualifiers and World Cup preparations, and Adarabioyo’s addition would be seen as a significant boost.
