ACCELERATE ACTION 2025: PDWHEELS MEDIA ORGANISES AMAZONS TENNIS TOURNAMENT IN CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The eagerly awaited Amazons Tennis Tournament in celebration of the International Women’s day tagged Accelerate Action 2025, was held on Saturday, 8th of March, 2025 at the Lagos Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.

The event was held at the Lagos Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos with all games being played simultaneously.

The event put together by Ambassador Joy Obayemi and Princess Chukwudumebi Agu, in partnership with the Lagos Tennis Club, came to a close as Nwajiagah Omeruo overcame veteran, Omotayo Osewa 4-2, 1-4, 10-6 in the final of the singles events.

The tournament began as early as 8:00am with a medical outreach and health talk with the topic “Fibroid on the rise in women, early detection & how it can be managed” by Ibrahim Ometere Rekiyat, a Wellness Expert who took time to explain to women about how to detect fibroid early and how to manage it to prevent spreading. She also advised them to seek the services of a medical personnel as soon as possible to avoid it from spreading.

In a keenly contested singles final, the eventual champion Nwajiagah Omeruo beat the Lagos Tennis club own, Omotayo Osewa 4-2, 1-4, 10-6 to go home with the cash prize of two hundred thousand Naira (N200,000), a giant trophy while the runner up, Omotayo Osewa was rewarded with the sum of one hundred thousand Naira (N100,000). Omeruo Nwajiagah praised the tournament organizers for putting up the event and also dedicated the victory to God. She said “I want to thank God for my victory and for being the last Amazon standing, It wasn’t really easy but I was confident and kept pushing myself”

The event which will now be an annual event according to the organizers, also witnessed the presence of important personalities which includes The Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on youth and sports development, Elizabeth Idoko Okogun, former NFF vice- president Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi amongst others. Additionally, it provided junior young professional-ranked female tennis players from Nigeria with a respectable stage on which to compete.

Ndidi Osaji won in the Junior Pro with Fareehah Adams as runner up.

Other categories saw Ndidi Osaji win the Junior Pro with Fareehah Adams in second place, while Chinenye Afam and Betsy Ezeiruaku finish as joint champions in the American Doubles and receive a total of 50,000 naira (N50,000).

Other side attractions included music, entertainment as well as several brands who were on ground to showcase and market their products. to further add spice to the day, there was also a game titled men in wigs, where men were made to wear wigs to play on the center court which also added ambience to the entire event.

Brands such as Cway table water, Boxi energy drink, Goldenpenny foods, American Cola, reaktor energy drink were all present at the event.
