Ajibade, Gift Monday Inspire Robo Queens Ahead of New NWFL Season Kickoff

Former Robo Queens stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Gift Monday have sent powerful messages of motivation to the club’s current squad as the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League season kicks off today across the country.

Robo Queens, drawn in Group B, open their campaign with a tricky away fixture against newly promoted Sunshine Queens in Akure.

Both Ajibade and Gift began their professional journeys at the Lagos-based side before rising to prominence on the global stage.

Ajibade, now Super Falcons captain, spent nine years at Robo Queens, progressing through the U-17, U-20, and senior national teams during her time at the club. She left in 2018 for Norway’s Avaldsnes, then moved to Atlético Madrid Women, and in 2025 signed for PSG Women.

In an emotional video message shared on Robo Queens’ Facebook page, Ajibade urged the players to value every moment of the new campaign.

She said, “The new season is a new opportunity to rewrite your chapter. My greatest advice for you is to make every opportunity count. There is unity in oneness, this is more important than any formation. Work hard for one another and celebrate yourselves. I am proud of every one of you, and I will be cheering you from afar. Go out there and play with courage.”

Gift Monday, another standout alumna of the club, also shared her encouragement. After breaking out at FC Robo, she went on loan to Bayelsa Queens, where she delivered one of the most memorable Super 6 performances in NWFL history, scoring nine goals in five matches, winning top scorer, Player of the Match, and Player of the Tournament awards.

Now playing for Washington Spirit in the NWSL after spells with Tenerife in Spain, Gift charged the players to believe in themselves.

“I want to encourage you as you are about to start your season. Go out there and play with your heart — give it your all. If you can dream it, you can win it,” she said.

Robo Queens continue to be one of the strongest talent factories in Nigerian women’s football. Beyond Ajibade and Gift, the club also produced six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala, who earned her breakthrough at Robo Queens before moving to Rivers Angels and later Liverpool Ladies.

As the new NWFL season kicks off, Robo Queens will hope the words of their famous alumni inspire another generation to shine.
