Gyökeres Bags Brace as Arsenal Thrash Leeds 5–0

Viktor Gyökeres scored his first goals for Arsenal as the Gunners put five past Leeds United in a dominant Premier League display at the Emirates Stadium.

Before kick-off, the North London club unveiled their new £60m signing Eberechi Eze to a jubilant crowd, setting the tone for what became a celebratory afternoon.

Jurrien Timber opened the scoring in the 34th minute, heading home from a Declan Rice delivery.

The Dutch defender later turned provider, assisting Bukayo Saka, who smashed in Arsenal’s second just before half-time.

Gyökeres struck early in the second half with a composed finish to make it 3–0, before Timber grabbed his second of the day with another set-piece goal.

The Swedish striker then completed his brace in stoppage time, converting a penalty won by 15-year-old debutant Max Dowman.

Dowman, who came on for Noni Madueke, became the second youngest player in Arsenal’s history at 15 years and 234 days, only behind Ethan Nwaneri’s 2022 record.

His impact was immediate, winning the late penalty to round off a memorable debut.

Despite the emphatic win, manager Mikel Arteta faces fitness concerns after losing captain Martin Ødegaard and winger Saka to injuries.

Ødegaard was forced off in the first half on his 200th appearance for the club, while Saka limped off in the second.

Leeds struggled to match Arsenal’s intensity, with Pascal Struijk’s saved header their only real chance of note.

New £18m signing Noah Okafor made his debut but was unable to make an impact.

The result extends Arsenal’s strong start to the season, but Arteta will be hoping the injuries do not derail their title ambitions, as happened in previous campaigns.
