Ruben Dias Signs New Manchester City Deal Until 2029

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has committed his future to the club after signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the Etihad until 2029, with an option for a further year.

The Portugal international’s previous deal was due to expire in 2027, but Friday’s announcement confirms his long-term stay with the Premier League champions, according to BBC Sport.

Dias, 28, joined City from Benfica for £65m in 2020 and has since become a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s defence.

He won the Premier League Player of the Year award in his debut season and has played a crucial role in the club’s success over the past five years, lifting four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

Reacting to the extension, Dias said “I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester – it is my home now – and I love the Manchester City fans. When I think about the trophies we have won and how we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, described the defender as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch.”

The club is expected to turn its attention next to contract talks with John Stones and Bernardo Silva, who each have one year remaining on their current deals. Ilkay Gundogan and Ederson are also approaching the final year of their contracts.

Meanwhile, Spanish midfielder Rodri, Phil Foden, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake all have two years left, while young full-back Rico Lewis is close to agreeing a new five-year deal.
