Lagos Reaffirms Readiness to Host 2026 National Youth Games

The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, has restated Lagos’ preparedness to host the 10th edition of the National Youth Games in 2026.

Lagos submitted its bid earlier this year, and as part of the process, officials of the Lagos State Sports Commission, alongside delegates from the National Sports Commission (NSC), embarked on a two-day inspection of facilities across the state.

The inspection tour covered several venues including Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, the National Stadium, the refurbished Elegbata Sports Complex, Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, the Cricket Oval at Tafawa Balewa Square, Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre at Rowe Park, the University of Lagos Sports Complex, CMS Grammar School in Bariga, and Agege Stadium.

Speaking during the tour, Fatodu highlighted Lagos’ track record in hosting major tournaments and assured that the state would deliver a landmark edition of the games.

“As an experienced host, Lagos is poised to stage a history-making edition of the Youth Games in 2026,” he said.

He further noted that sports in Lagos go beyond recreation, serving as a tool for national cohesion, unity, and youth empowerment.

According to him, the government is focused on reconstructing, renovating, and repositioning facilities to meet global standards ahead of the games.

Director of Grassroots Sports Development and leader of the NSC delegation, Amaka Ashiofu, explained that the aim of awarding hosting rights is to stimulate sports infrastructure development.

She added that the commission would work closely with Lagos State to ensure a smooth hosting process.

Meanwhile, Delta State is set to host the 2025 edition of the National Youth Games from August 26 to September 6.
