AC Milan Close in on Victor Boniface After Agreement with Leverkusen

AC Milan are on the verge of signing Nigerian striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen, with both clubs reaching a verbal agreement over a loan deal that includes a €30m buy option clause.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday that the Italian giants are now preparing the formal documents, while also holding direct talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives to finalise personal terms.

The buy option is not mandatory, but Milan see Boniface as a key addition to their attack.

“AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen preparing formal documents after verbal agreement for Victor Boniface. Loan deal with €30m buy option clause not mandatory. AC Milan now in direct talks with Victor Boniface’s agent over personal terms, key final step to get the deal done,” Romano posted on X.

Boniface has already given the green light to the move, reportedly accepting Milan’s contract proposal. Negotiations are now centred on the structure of the deal, with optimism in both Italy and Germany that an agreement will be sealed shortly.

The move comes as a surprise twist in Milan’s striker hunt. The Rossoneri were long thought to be focused on Rasmus Højlund and Dusan Vlahovic, but behind the scenes, the club discreetly advanced talks with Leverkusen for Boniface.

Italian journalist Daniele Longo had earlier reported those two names as Milan’s only real options, making the Boniface development unexpected.

Reports from Sky Italia and Gianluca Di Marzio describe the situation as “advanced” and “decisive,” while German journalist Florian Plettenberg noted that Leverkusen are “leaning towards yes,” partly influenced by the player’s desire to move to Serie A.

If completed, the switch would signal a significant shift in Milan’s transfer strategy after their struggles to land Højlund, who prefers a permanent deal, and Vlahovic, whose valuation remains an obstacle in talks with Juventus.

Boniface, who scored 11 Bundesliga goals and provided an assist last season under Xabi Alonso, has been praised for his pace, strength, and relentless pressing.

Milan believe those attributes make him an ideal fit to spearhead Massimiliano Allegri’s new-look side.
