Ex-Super Eagles Striker Brown Ideye Announces Retirement from Football

Former Nigeria international Brown Ideye has officially retired from professional football at the age of 36.

The ex-Super Eagles forward confirmed the decision in a post on X, writing:

“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football. I will first like to thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed. I thank my family and friends for their unwavering love, support and understanding till this day.”

Ideye enjoyed a storied career that spanned clubs in England, Greece, China, Ukraine and Spain. He earned 28 caps for Nigeria, scoring six goals, and was part of the Super Eagles squad that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Reflecting on his journey, the former West Bromwich Albion striker added that football will remain part of his life as he embarks on a new chapter beyond the pitch.
