Awoniyi Set for Nottingham Forest Exit After Falling Down Striker Pecking Order

Taiwo Awoniyi’s future at Nottingham Forest is uncertain after a flurry of summer signings pushed the Nigerian forward further out of contention at the City Ground.

According to reports, Forest have granted the 28-year-old permission to leave following the arrival of several attacking reinforcements.

Awoniyi was left on the bench and unused in Forest’s 3-1 opening-day victory over Brentford, with Chris Wood leading the line and new £17m signing Igor Jesus brought on ahead of him.

The competition for attacking spots intensified further with the weekend’s £26m capture of French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo from Rennes.

The 23-year-old, who netted 18 goals across all competitions last season, is viewed as a long-term option, effectively pushing Awoniyi down to fourth-choice striker.

Nuno Espírito Santo has also welcomed Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee to his squad, adding even more attacking depth as Forest prepare for European competition this season.

Awoniyi, who managed just one Premier League goal last campaign after struggling with injuries and inconsistency, is now expected to weigh up a move in search of regular football.

The Nigerian joined Forest from Union Berlin in 2022 and played a key role in their survival during his debut season, scoring crucial goals to secure their top-flight status.

However, with Santo keen to reshape his squad, Awoniyi appears surplus to requirements heading into the new campaign.
