Atalanta Set to Sanction Ademola Lookman After Strike Over Failed Inter Move

Ademola Lookman is facing disciplinary sanctions from Atalanta after staging a two-week training strike in an attempt to force through a transfer to Inter Milan, a move that has now collapsed.

The Nigerian forward returned to Atalanta’s Zingonia headquarters this week, where he met with CEO Antonio Percassi to discuss his future, following Inter’s formal withdrawal from negotiations.

Lookman had agreed personal terms with Inter on a proposed five-year contract, but Percassi refused to sanction a sale to another Serie A club, despite previously promising to allow the player to leave in 2025.

Frustrated by the club’s stance, Lookman skipped training without submitting a medical certificate, deleted Atalanta-related content from his social media, and openly demanded a move.

Atalanta stood firm, rejecting Inter’s final €45m offer before the Nerazzurri abandoned the deal.

According to reports in Italy, Atalanta will fine Lookman for his absence and dock his wages, while also demanding a public apology.

Despite the disciplinary measures, head coach Ivan Juric is reluctant to lose the forward after the sale of last season’s Serie A top scorer, Mateo Retegui.

Juric reportedly warned that Atalanta would be deprived of “90 per cent of their goals” if Lookman also departed.

As a result, the club is weighing a reintegration plan that could see the 26-year-old restored to the starting XI once the matter is resolved, balancing discipline with the need to maintain his form and market value ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in December.
