Sinner, Siniakova Withdraw From US Open Mixed Doubles

World number one Jannik Sinner and his Czech partner Katerina Siniakova have pulled out of the US Open mixed doubles event, organisers confirmed on Tuesday.

“Jannik Sinner and Katerina Siniakova have withdrawn from the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship,” a statement on the tournament’s official website read.

The withdrawal follows Sinner’s retirement during Monday’s Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz. The 24-year-old Italian, who was trailing 5-0 in the opening set, conceded the match after falling ill on the eve of the contest.

“I’m disappointed, I didn’t feel great from yesterday,” Sinner said during the trophy ceremony. “During the night I thought I would recover a bit better, but it was not the case.”

While he skipped media duties afterward, Sinner later released a statement stressing his commitment to defending his title in New York.

“I love Grand Slams a lot; they are the main tournaments for my season and my career,” he said. “The US Open is going to be tough, but I’m looking forward to it if I’m ready, physically and mentally.”

The mixed doubles competition, which debuts this year in a shortened format featuring top singles stars, had not been specifically addressed in Sinner’s earlier remarks, raising questions about his availability before Tuesday’s announcement.

Sinner and Siniakova will now be replaced by Americans Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison, who are set to open against Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic and Germany’s Alexander Zverev.
