Defending Champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Remo Stars will play their home matches at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta at the start of the new season, pending the completion of renovation works at their Ikenne stadium.
The club confirmed the development on Monday, just days before the new NPFL season kicks off on Friday.
Remo Stars will open their title defence against last season’s runners-up Rivers United on Saturday in Abeokuta.
“Due to ongoing renovations at our stadium in Ikenne, the club can confirm a temporary home ground, the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta,” a statement read. “Come through, make some noise, and let’s turn Abeokuta into a fortress together. A return home is however imminent.”
It is unclear how long the Sky Blue Stars will remain in Abeokuta, but their early fixtures suggest an extended stay. After the opener against Rivers United, they will travel to newly-promoted Kun-Khalifat in Owerri before returning to host Warri Wolves.
Abeokuta could also stage their CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg tie against Comoros side US Zilimadjou, scheduled between September 19 and 21. The winner of that tie will face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the next round.
Remo Stars claimed the 2024/25 NPFL title with 71 points, finishing seven points clear of Rivers United to secure their first-ever league crown after near misses in the two previous seasons.
