Head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, Leke Oyede, is fine-tuning his squad with the help of two Zimbabwean coaches ahead of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, scheduled for August 28 to September 7 in Namibia.
The Female Yellow Greens are currently in a closed camp in Lagos, where they will soon be joined by an additional coach from South Africa.
The team began training last month in Benin City, Edo State, with 22 players, before Oyede trimmed the squad to 18 for the final phase in Lagos.
“The goal is to pick 15 players for the World Cup qualifiers,” Oyede told NCF media on Thursday. “We have been working hard with the support of two Zimbabwe coaches, and a South African coach will join soon.
The aim is to sharpen the girls’ skills so they can perform at the top level.”
Oyede revealed that the team will play a series of test games to improve match awareness and maintain readiness ahead of the tournament.
Nigeria will compete against Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone at the qualifiers.
The top two teams will progress to the global qualifiers later in the year, with the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup set to take place in England.
